James Dennis “Jim” Haner, 80, of Gallipolis, Ohio died on Saturday, March 06, 2010 at the Holzer Medical Center after a short illness.
He was born on February 4, 1930 in Gallia County, the son of the late Russell L. and Fannie Frances Neal Haner, Sr. Jim Served in the US Army during Korea from March 2, 1951 to February 18, 1953. He worked at the Gallipolis Motor Company and later retired from the Phillip Sporn Plant in 1993. He also enjoyed fishing and sports.
Jim was married to Hilda “Sis” Watson Haner on September 25, 1954. In addition to his wife of 55 years, he is survived by a daughter Diana (Lyle) Shillington and a son Dennis (Teresa) Haner both of Gallipolis; Grandchildren Erin (Byron Welch) Shillington of Jeffersonville, KY, Alan Shillington, Cody and Stacy Haner all of Gallipolis, one great grandson Brody Welch of Jeffersonville, KY, four brothers, Adrian “Buddy” (Gladys) Haner, Wendell (Lillia) Haner, both of Gallipolis, Kenny (Marsha) Haner of Crown City, and Robert “Bob” (Carolyn) Haner of Gallipolis, four sisters Mary (Junior) Lewis of Flatwoods, KY, Harriett Martin of Gallipolis, Josie Mowery, and Hilda Barcus both of Springfield, Ohio, a sister-in-law Clara Haner of Gallipolis and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son Walter Eugene Haner, his parents and by two brothers, Russell Haner, Jr. and Jerry Haner.
Funeral Services will be 1 pm Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at Willis Funeral Home with Paul Sanders officiating. Burial will follow in the Ohio Valley Memory Gardens. Friends may call on Monday, March 8, 2010 from 6-8 pm at Willis Funeral Home. His nephews will serve as pallbearers. Military graveside rites will be given by volunteers of area veteran’s lodges.
